  • DSC 1280 There was still 10-12 feet of snow at Paradise, but it was nice and warm - maybe 50F. A beautiful day.
  • IMG 3294 I was completely comfortable in shorts and a T shirt. We rented the snowshoes from Whittaker Mountaineering in Ashford.

  • DSC 1410 Everyone else was going up and over the top, to the right of us; we took the easy way and traversed around the side of the hill.

  • DSC 1441 This is where we topped out - just short of Pebble Creek (which was completely buried).
  • DSC 1438 Just at the base of the Muir Snowfield.

  • DSC 1439 Upper Muir Snowfield. Camp Muir is in the center of the photo. Hundreds of people on the trail that day.
  • DSC 1436 The Rainier Moutanieering (RMI) Shelter at Camp Muir. Basically, a big black plywood box wired down to the rocks so it doesn't blow away. The solar toilets and the public shelter barely visible at right.
